Looking Back over 2018
While the headlines were dominated with the confirmation of the second United States Supreme Court justice in as many years, it’s important to note several other news items with right-to-life implications in 2018. While this series of posts isn’t comprehensive, it covers several important and pending issues we as Christians should be aware of and praying over.
Right to Life: Ballot Initiatives
West Virginia and Alabama passed initiatives to help establish a pro-life posture in the law. Oregon rejected protections for the unborn.
Alabamans voted to accept Amendment 2 to their constitution: “to declare and otherwise affirm that it is the public policy of this state to recognize and support the sanctity of unborn life and the rights of unborn children, most importantly the right to life in all manners and measures appropriate and lawful; and to provide that the constitution of this state does not protect the right to abortion or require the funding of abortion.”
Similarly, West Virginians amended their constitution to clarify, “Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of abortion.”
In Oregon, a constitutional amendment to block public funding of abortions except for “ectopic pregnancy and for pregnant woman in danger of death due to her physical condition” or “for spending required by federal law” failed to pass by a near two-to-one margin.
Thanks for your ongoing prayers and support as we continue to fight undaunted until abortion is no longer endorsed by our government. “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight” (Proverbs 15:8).
