Every week, the National Center for Life and Liberty (NCLL) receives hundreds of calls from churches and Christian ministries caught off guard by lawsuits, government overreach, or unexpected legal issues.
Our mission is simple: to stand in the legal gap, so pastors and ministry leaders can remain focused on sharing the Gospel without the crushing weight of legal battles.
This month, we’re sharing four real-life ministry challenges—covering staff disputes, security concerns, sensitive attendee situations, and privacy breaches.
This Month’s Featured Cases
A Staff Dispute Sparks Social Media Uproar
When a Christian school employee’s troubling conduct outside of work began fueling online controversy, concerned parents demanded immediate termination.
The employee insisted on retaining his position, while tensions flared across social media, placing the school’s reputation and leadership in jeopardy. Seeking a solution consistent with both biblical principles and established state regulations, the administration turned to us for guidance.
With careful review of the school’s policies, we advised the leadership on handling disciplinary matters, balancing parents’ concerns, and safeguarding the institution’s reputation.
By implementing a deliberate strategy—grounded in transparency and respect for all parties—the school resolved the matter, preserving its commitment to Christian values and restoring harmony in the community.
Church Security in the Wake of Tragedy
When a nearby shooting alarmed a local congregation, church leadership realized they needed a robust safety plan. Unsure how to create and implement policies, select security team members, or provide comprehensive training, they reached out for legal assistance.
We collaborated with the church to establish a security framework tailored to their needs—drafting policies, suggesting qualified trainers, and outlining response procedures.
Empowered by a clear plan and thorough preparation, the church will be able to protect its attendees and maintain its welcoming, faith-centered atmosphere.
Managing a Sensitive Situation with a Sex Offender Attendee
After discovering that a regular attendee was a registered sex offender with a history of crimes against minors, church leaders faced urgent questions: Could this individual continue attending? How should the congregation be protected? What policies needed to be in place?
We guided the church through a nuanced approach—developing protocols that balanced ministry opportunities with stringent safety measures.
By addressing legal obligations, consulting with law enforcement, and crafting a careful communication plan, the church maintained a secure environment and an appropriate path for ministry engagement.
Protecting Privacy When a Daycare Employee Goes Rogue
A Christian school daycare was blindsided when an employee abruptly quit, then posted photos of children on personal social media. Alarmed parents sought immediate action, while the administration grappled with how to remove the content and prevent future breaches.
We offered urgent counsel—explaining privacy laws, contacting the employee to demand removal of all unauthorized images, and outlining steps for safeguarding parents’ trust.
With the posts taken down and new protective measures in place, the daycare could move forward confidently, ensuring the safety and privacy of every child.
Looking Ahead
These real-life cases remind us why we do what we do. When churches and ministries face lawsuits or legal threats, resources meant for outreach are diverted to legal defense.
By coming alongside them, we help ensure they can continue preaching the Gospel, serving their communities, and shaping lives for Christ.
